I have had problems with corrupted O2h downloads from the main Sourceforge offering for sometime. (used mirror as workaround) I don't think this attack is the root of the problem.

Why would anyone attack them? I just don't get it. Glad they caught it early on. Can you imagine having to validate all the data they must have, what a headache and job!

It is unclear whether there was any motive behind the attack. Like any individual - web hosts have to have strong immune systems to fend off infection by pathogens.

Perhaps if people started using pathogens instead of hackers it would make it not so cool to be one.

The silver lining is that with hacks and security breaks, the holes get patched making a more secure environment for everyone. There is a price to pay being the worlds most popular OS. It makes investing the time in breaking stuff knowing you have a huge audience and a company that relies on 3rd party security measures. The same goes for the health care industry. Unless you sue them (only thing they understand) for malpractice, they will continue killing people with out dated protocols and negligence.
