Title: Tiny and Micro Core Linux
Post by: kryton9 on February 16, 2011, 05:36:52 PM
I have been trying various Linux distros on my original eeepc 701 (4g surf).

This by far is the smallest and fastest Linux Distro so far, but I am not fluent in linux enough to
use this yet, but I was very impressed with what I did see.

A great tool that I use for making usb thumbdrive installs is:

An OS with a desktop in 10 Megs! That sounds promising.  I remember MS Windows was around this size in the mid 1990s. It came on 10 floppies and ran within 1 Meg of RAM.

One little problem with the PenDrive Web site is the placement of bogus download buttons - usually some junk software which is all too easy to download before realizing it is not what you wanted. so beware!

Aurel, thanks for telling me about SliTaz.  It is fantastic for my eeepc 4g. With only a 4gb solid state drive, the original windows xp was taking almost all of it up. And when it did updates it would run out of room.
Now Slitaz only takes a fraction of disk space and boots up so quickly. My wireless worked right out of the box and unlike ubuntu does not tell me that my battery is broken. So far this is my dream OS, small, fast and very friendly.

Yes Kent SliTaz is really great distro.
Only thing which i would like to see is better fonts like Helvetica or similiar
clear type.
