Title: incomplete elliptic integral
Post by: jack on August 15, 2014, 10:14:12 AM
there was a problem posted at the Mathematica forum where Mathematica gave the wrong result,
so I tried the problem in Maple and it gave the correct numeric result.
the result involves the elliptic integral of the first kind, if I enter the symbolic result from Maple in Mathematica
it gives a different numeric answer than Maple, my question: is Mathematica's EllipticF function wrong or is Maple's ?

.

Hi Jack,

Possibly  there may be a confusion between the arguments depending on the way the Elliptic integral is written --  iirc there is a trigoniometric representation and the one by Jacobi  (it's a substitution something as  t=sin(a) ;  x=sin(b) ) -- I'll look it up (it's late here (i'm in the EU )  -- and I have Maxima somewhere (the Algebraic Lisp system -- it surely has every type of those Elliptic integrals ) to compare ..

best Rob
