Title: Server Plesk Upgrade
Post by: JRS on July 28, 2018, 01:36:44 PM
I plan on upgrading the AWS EC2 instance tonight of Plesk 12 to Onyx 17. If all goes well, the forum shouldn't be down too long.

Well that was scary!

I created a snapshot of my instance as a backup before doing the Plesk upgrade and when I restarted the instance again we were back to Oct. 2017 on all sites.  :'(

Luckily the CTO of Plesk is a friend and only a DM away from help from the top. I was able to create a new instance from the snapshot.

I never did get to the Plesk upgrade. Enough excitement for one night.

Thanks, John.

Your precautions paid off, and the moral is to always be wary of upgrades.

My HP Pavilion laptop got a dodgy Intel graphics driver upgrade which slightly distorted OpenGL graphics, and made object-picking almost impossible. This must have affected millions of Laptops. We had to wait 6 months for the next driver.

Worse case is we would be restarting from May 9, 2018 from my offsite domain backups.

I would have lost a very important site I was working on as I hadn't backed it up yet.

I have never been more happy about going nowhere.  ;D

I have setup a new AWS EC2 instance.

CPU        Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2676 v3 @ 2.40GHz (2 core(s))
Version  Plesk Onyx v17.8.11_build1708180301.19 os_CentOS 7
OS          CentOS Linux 7.5.1804 (Core)

I have already moved the OpenSage.org (http://opensage.org/forum) site and OxygenBasic.org will be the last to go when Charles is awake to test his Plesk control panel.

Update

I have scriptbasic.org running on the new server. My e-mail client doesn't seem to be working unless I send the message from webmail. (which seems to be working fine)

The Script BASIC wiki was screwed up which may be a PHP version issue. I reverted back to the old server for Script BASIC.

I will play with this again tomorrow.

Good luck!

I hope it's worth all your efforts, (and toll on the nervous system!)

I need to get off Plesk 12 as it has reach its end of life. I also need to get the sites on HTTPS with Let's Encrypt certificates.

I will be moving the OxygenBasic site to the new server today.

I need to finish this as running two instances is going to get expensive.

Please refrain from posting anything new until I update this thread when I have the site on the new server.

Thanks, John.

All working fine. The backup takes about 4 seconds!

Great!

Did you check your webmail and an external client if you use one?

All sites on the new server are now HTTPS with the Let's Encrypt certificates.

Let me know if you run into any problems under HTTPS with OxygenBasic.org.
