I always have problems with:
Avira
Avast
AVG
-
Hi Frank,
I tested some compiled progs using http://www.virustotal.com
Avira is just about the only one that generates a false positive now. No trouble with 64 bit binaries.
I will try to contact them later. Their site is down at present.

I don't want raise any kind of panic BUT.
I use Baidu Antivirus which is based on Avira and again problems with exes created by Oxygen.
Anyone can confirm this ...? ::)
I have send complain or false positive to Baidu but im not sure that anyone recieve this ???
-
Not only Oxygen exe files, anything compiled seems to be fair game for some of these Virus checkers. I feel they are out of control.
-
Yes Charles you have a right ,i am really pissed off with this ,
but which one you use?
-
I use Microsoft Security Essentials. It's free/supported by the creator of the OS. Why use anything else?
-
Microsoft Security Essentials
because it is ordinary crap... ;D
By the way ..John it looks to me that you cannot imagine how much windows is open source :D
-
Charles
You still don't answer me ..which antivirus u use?
However in few last days i have tested (try) many antivirus programs.
many of them are paranoid, strange and many of them are from Indonesia... :o
what is so interesting for Indonesian to made so many antivirus proframs ::)
i am not sure ...smell strange..
And what a heck many of them use Avira engine to...which i don't like to much.
In my search i have found one interesting from SantaClara called
Xyvos Antivirus 1.5 Free
which have this:
This program is also fast and reliable which means that you are free from false alarms that are created by most of the other products in the market.
-
How did your Microsoft Essentials testing work out?
-
I am using the free version of Avast. It makes increasingly strident demands to pay for the upgraded version, and its web-shield is a nuisance. But I can just about tolerate it.
-
Aha..i use Avast in the past and he eat lot of resources but work and is not such a paranoid
like Avira , with this new one it loos that things are ok,/for now/ ::)
-
It makes increasingly strident demands to pay for the upgraded version
You almost have to be a magician to get the free version installed. The constant pestering to upgrade is more than I could tolerate. I'm talking about casual Windows use in a VirtualBox. I switched to MS Security Essentials and never looked back. It's free but does require a legal copy of Windows. I fear this is why Aurel is so reluctant to try it.
-
I fear this is why Aurel is so reluctant to try it.
No,i have a legal copy.
I have try to instal MSE but it looks that refuse to install to the end .
I even instal then i have problems with update and etc...etc...etc.
I simply do not prefer MS security tools.

Not having to deal with anti-virus add-ons was one of the first benefits I realize moving to Linux. I used Kaspersky internet essentials for years as Norton took away more than half of my PC's performance and download speed using it. I thought it was a good move on Microsoft's part protecting their investment with their own tools.
-
Aurel,
Installing anti-virus software gives the application admin level permissions with your PC. Unless you totally uninstall and reboot before trying something new, they will fight with each other thinking you're already infected.

Of course ...what you mean that i am from yesterday ::)
I have found something about antivirus programs on purebasic forum where
one guy say that most of viruses comes from chine - and i would add from indonesia.
Because most of new AV programs comes from indonesia to >:(.
So one BIG suggestion - avoid AV software from indonesia... 8)
-
If you load any crap from the Internet then you need no antivirus program
really?
So when i download your .dll which have hooked virus i only need hammer...bum!
fiju...viju....
countin.... .... ....
ohoho,,,,,,5 stars....good Peter ;D
-
When I used Windows as my primary development OS, keeping up with anti-virus software was like taking on a second job. :(
-
I just tested my programs writtren in oxygen on virustotal and
only...
Avira - TR/Crypt.XPACK.Gen2
is this freaking thing false positive ???
-
Avira consistently flags a false positive. Very few others do so.
-
yeah Peter i know..
but just check on virustotal
By the way i found Blade Scaner very well ,as protection i use Xyvos and AVZ Kaspersky.
