I wonder if Tablets, with their low-powered ARM-based processors will eventually displace the PC.

Never happen.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 - Ubuntu 12.04 LTS ARM - chroot on Android Linux

Well, maybe not on single core tablets.  :)

Is it running smooth enough John? Any gotchas out of the box or things look good?

Runs great! (touch or mouse)

I wouldn't advise trying it on anything less then 2 cores. The SGT2_10.1 is a sweet tablet for the price IMO. (have 4 (2 rooted), (1 stock) and a spare)

Glad to hear it is running well John. And WOW, you have 4 tablets, you are seriously becoming a master of that world!

That small quad core is really cool too!

I was thinking last night while trying to go to sleep. Intel and Micrososft are becoming like our auto industry of the 1970's. They think they are Kings and can do no wrong and who cares what people want. The fact that intel first promised 80 core cpus in 5 years when they decided to go the multicore route, of course 5 years have passed and in terms of affordability we are still only at 4 cores.

Microsoft again dropped the ball with its new OS. Trying to charge premium for any configuration and not giving us what we need. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/steve-ballmer-s-nightmare-is-coming-true-181558610.html

So, if these giants don't wake up they will be surpassed by these newer little devices and the companies that stand out of the pack in the coming years.

Samsung is selling them direct for $299 USD now. I paid $400 each (after taxes) at Costco when they first came out back in July. If you are planning on doing any serious tablet development, you need at least three. There is no easy way to upgrade an OS of a rooted device. When I need to upgrade, I take the oldest OS version tablet and restore it to the current stock version and re-root it again. The stock unit is for test and the environment most the world is running under.
