Forum moving to new Server
« on: January 13, 2011, 07:56:03 PM »

On Saturday (15th Jan) John will be moving us to a new Server so the WebPage, Forum and Wiki will be offline for a while. If all goes smoothly it will be a brief interruption. - the system remains the same.

Not to pry, but is John running the servers from his home or office?
I had a web hosted site and the server handling was on their side. I am thinking of getting a faster internet connection and running a server from home so I can learn and play with that side of things as well.

I was thinking of trying one of these when I can find one around $50: http://www.plugcomputer.org/

I have been paying $158 / month for a dedicated server at a data center for years. I'm only hosting open source projects and my daughter's recovery blog with no income producing clients. I'm moving the sites to a VPS @ $35 / month. It's the same data center, just a cheaper solution.

Oh, I see John, thanks for filling me in. If you were running form home/office I was going to pick your brains a bit and get a head start :)
Good luck with the move!

Forum Members,

At 5:00 pm Central Time USA, this site and the others I host will be moving to a new server. There should be minimal downtime with this process if all goes well. There will be a short period (4:30 - 5:30) that posting will be disabled to move databases to the new server.

Thanks for your understanding and support.

John Spikowski

We are now on the new server. Let me know if you run into any problems.

Today was the first time I was able to get on, the 24th of January. I bet my DNS cache was keeping me off since you guys were on a few days ago.
Thanks for the switch and providing the forums, it is amazing how used we get to visiting a site almost daily. Nice to see it back up and working smoothly!
