New Member - introducing myself

Hello,

I am new to this forum although I follow the development of Oxygenbasic and the discussions since about half a year. In the moment I use Windows Vista 32 bit on a 5 years old notebook as I crashed my ten years old PC completely. I live in the south of Germany. Being a hobby programmer in my spare time, my capabiliies are of course restricted a little bit. Starting with Basic many years ago - there was no other affordable language for micro computers then - I still have a problem to read a program e.g. in the C language. As I have retired from work, I maybe will have a little bit more time now to fill some gaps. Perhaps some day I will even try to understand object oriented programming.

There are some reasons why I got attracted to Oxygenbasic, amongst others e.g. the size of Oxygenbasic is not too large, there are many examples which help in learning about the language and I like the facility to use gxo2.exe almost like an interpreter and at the same time be able to create stand-alone applications. And it seems that the language has a lot of potential.

Welcome to the forum Roland, and many thanks for your contributions.

My intention is to keep the core language as small as possible, with a minimum set of operating-system dependencies.

When you work with the Windows GUI, you are already using object oriented programming in disguise. Windows handles are all objects. OOP is supposed to make programming simpler and manageable when a project is scaled up. For many Basic programmers, there is a psychological barrier to using it, probably due to the excess baggage that comes with various implementations.
