I am in favour of free speech ...

Seems Aurel has taken FREE to all aspects of his computing life. I don't claim to be Sherlock Holmes but it's obvious Aurel doesn't p(l)ay be the rules. My guess is he uses a bootleg copy of XP (only uses free AV and doesn't qualify for MS registered user products) and steals internet access. (AB, O2 and SB sites trackers report him using different IPs on various subnets along with his interest in WIFI antenna design) He has no friends (spends all his time on forums making virtual people miserable) because anyone local will have nothing to do with him. When banned from a forum he creates a new one of his own. (you got it, free forums sites) I have tried all methods I know of to help him focus and get along with others but I think I finally run into someone that is truly hopeless.

I am in favour of free speech, but when a thread becomes destructive, it will be given a very short lifespan.

I think this benefits our community in the long term. I am not in favour of banning anyone.

It is a bit myopic to consider trolling and personal attacks as free speech.  Neither are a benefit to any community and are quite destructive to the community and product associated with it.

You left out stealing code and claiming it as his.  I never have and never will tolerate Aurel's abuse.  Since there are personal attacks against me by Aurel on this forum and Charles is okay with that and seems to support it, then nobody will have a problem when Aurel gets hit with both barrels.  The only way to deal with a bully is punch him in the nose.

That approach with Aurel quickly escalates to vulgarities and childish name calling as his response. (in broken English to make it worse)

I think ignoring him is the best way to get results. I propose that no one (except Charles) respond to Aurel in the upcoming month of January. If things don't get better, we will extend it for another month until he does.

The very first thing I looked for when I joined the forum was the ignore feature.  Unfortunately, there isn't one.  Will have to do it old-school.

I think that the ignore feature is a SMF 2 feature. I may briefly look at Aurel's posts for the entertainment value but have no plans to help or respond to his posts going forward.

I could not agree, more.
