OxygenBasic License
« on: April 02, 2014, 02:32:17 PM »
Gentlemen,

I'd appreciate very much my being enlightened about what license exactly OxygenBasic is developed and distributed under.

I wouldn't want to instigate any heated legalese discussions here but here's a brief list of possible open-source options and my own, very personal attitudes in case the matter hasn't been settled yet:

1. Public domain - do whatever your like, no credit required or even expected, no responsibility assumed.

My attitude: the utter form of self-sacrifice and generosity worthy of my total respect.

2. MIT, BSD, and similar - do whatever you like but always give general credit, no responsibility assumed.

My attitude: sensible pragmatism; share what you like and keep secret or fork whatever and whenever you feel like it; stay the owner and master of your own code regardless of whether you use somebody else's bits and pieces as wheels or crutches for your own work. That's what I always do with my code that goes open-source.

3. GNU LGPL - do derivative GNU GPL or use unmodified DLL's only, scrupulous personal credit to individuals that assume no responsibility before you in their own return.

My attitude: narcissism; never been there, never done that with my own code.

4. GNU GPL - do exclusively derivative GNU GPL with scrupulous personal credit but still no responsibility in return.

My attitude: utter narcissism bordering on social danger.

Kind regards,

Charles Pegge

Hi Mike,

OxygenBasic is certainly in the public domain, as you have defined it here. I would only add that providing references and web-links, is encouraged to indicate provenance and to facilitate further development. But this project is not ego-powered :)

You know what happened to Narcissus:
