this works fine but GPFs on the Esc key or when the program is closed.

i think ,when you say sdl.h that this is only one file ,but
it looks that are many.
As you can see SDL is based on openGl ,right?

So look that if is SDL on windows then he is layer for DirectX.
But why then on his site is written that is based on openGL
however...

I've encountered SDL before. It comes in many pieces. the S for 'simple' is a bit misleading in my opinion.
